Stef & I keep having this conversations that sway way personal real fast. I had to edit out a lot of shit, including my own family drama.

The supernatural element to this movie is honestly not great, it’s flimsy af, but it creates a very eerie & beautiful aesthetic. It’s the underlying story of interpersonal conflict & living a life that’s authentic to you vs. living the life your parents or society expect you to live that really hits.

& Raul is just a prime example of why I’m good with being alone forever if the alternative is boring, cold, & indifferent. & even as a hopelessly straight person I was immediately drawn to Octavia, to the intensity of their connection. There’s this dynamic with Raul that is just being kept on a shelf — like stay home, care for the baby, don’t pursue your art. She’s comfortable but stagnant. & maybe things are a little more up in the air with Octavia but I’d rather live in a hut out in the woods with someone who inspires me, someone I feel passionate about, than live a boring life shut up & comfortable. I think that’s a near-universal truth. There are a lot of ways to make stability, to make a safe home with someone, especially if you’re creative, but I don’t know that you can fake chemistry, compatibility. Though it may be a little corny, there’s something so satisfying about the ending of this movie. About her leaving for a new life with Octavia.
