Portland trip: Thrice & Holy Fawn

I am working on a review for this show & it will likely run as part of my column in August.

The one thing I’ll say is that I’d no plans to go to this show. My brother had bought a ticket for himself & another friend that backed out. & I listened to “The Artist in the Ambulance” for the first time a couple months before the date of the show. & still, this was honestly one of the best shows I’ve been to this year.

While the drive to Seattle creates a tough go for a quick over & back, the typically six-and-a-half hour jaunt out to Portland is just not possible. The last time we went to Portland for a show — The Wonder Years & Hot Mulligan — we tried to go to a show the night after we drove in & I was dead a few songs into the headlining set.

We drove in Friday & my brother & I drove down to Clackamas & found our last unvisited D&B in the Pacific Northwest. The day of the show we went to Portland Japanese Garden & then pregamed at Ground Kontrol. The drive back was a mess because we went home the Seattle side & hit bad weather & traffic but overall, it was a great trip.
