Mad Radish’s Anti-capitalist Rant in Cream Scene Carnival, Mayday issue

The art piece is still available on the magazine’s website.

When I applied to be on staff at Cream Scene, the EIC, Dia, replied & suggested that maybe Mad Radish — a ridiculous character I sketched out during a meeting at work — could run as part of the Mayday issue.

The OG sketch

Mad Radish’s story was built in a discord conversation earlier in the day. He is a post-hardcore screamer in a band out of Seattle called Free Roam Vegetation. The clean singer is an oak tree, I think there was a potato & a carrot in the band. & they were the nemesis of the monied White Corn family from Idaho, I thnk there was a relationship that went south. I honestly don’t remember very well but this shit is what used to get me through the work day.

I ended up sketching Mad during the meeting that afternoon because it was an incredibly boring, drawn out announcement that we were being bought out. & I was anxious as fuck because I’d just been “promoted” — given a new title & more responsibility with no more money. Things just got worse from there. Fuck that job.

Once I bought a tablet for my computer, I decided to use Mad to test it out. I pulled the sketch in & drew a digital version of him — that’s what Dia saw on my Instagram. The revised version that ran in the magazine is a little bolder, grosser. I felt like he needed a makeover to fit in with the Mayday theme.
