I am a former newspaper arts journalist & editor & currently work as an editor, columnist, staff artist, web support, & Instagram manager for independent magazines & as a host, sound editor, & web support for a podcast. Prior to working in print journalism, I was a quality administrator for a foundry responsible for the creation & control of technical documents like specifications, process documents, & prints. I also have past experience as a judge for a yearly writing contest with my local writing organization. Educationally, I hold an associates degree with a focus on English literature & music theory.
Independently, I create digital art, physical art, poetry, long form fiction, short form fiction, non fiction, reviews, websites, physical books, & digital books. My digital art is available for viewing on this portfolio & on Instagram.
I’m busy af but I’m also idealistic & typically broke so if you’re looking for help hit me up.
I am available to do the following for free:
- Read any work 1k or less & give a paragraph of general feedback or a quick blurb. I prefer to do this for people that would return the favor for me. This may take me up to a month.
- Consult on the steps to put together press kits or other promotional materials for bands/artists/art events. I’m working on writing something generally for this but until I get around to it please feel free to send me an email.
- Appearing on relevant podcasts.
- Review works or interview artists (my schedule may be a little messy though so this is more of a contact me & let’s see what we can make work thing). I am freelance but publish mostly through Sage Cigarettes Magazine.
I am available to do the following for pay:
- Creating, hosting, & running websites for art/music/lit projects or artists.
- Creating press kits, fliers, & other promotional materials for bands/artists/writers.
- Giving detailed editorial feedback on long & short-form written work.
- Copyediting any text.
- Create digital art consistent with my specific style.
- Lay out books, chapbooks, or pamphlets (I use Scribus & deliver .pdf files)
- Podcast audio/video editing
What I take on depends entirely upon my schedule & interest in what is presented to me. If you want to hire me, pitch the project via email (she@nocturnical.com) & I will quote you my price. I run about $50/hr with an hr minimum on most projects but can be flexible if you have financial restrictions & I really like or believe in your project.
